Neowin.net has closed down due to bandwidth issues (sound familiar?) I visit the site quite alot but I didn't see this coming.

------------------------------------------------------------
Neowin is closed for now.

We don't have the capacity to support the type of site we have always wanted to bring to our visitors. Despite our best efforts we are still refusing our visitors and long term members the web site due to errors similar to "Server too busy"

Since Neowin will never be just another phpnuke or copycat wannabe tech site we would rather call it a day than continue to limp on our resources. So for now we opt for closure.

Yes... No day in the past months without looking at the news and the 'Cursors, Icons and Wallpapers' section at least twice a day... Sad...

I posted it as a news item Crap is right. They just (yesterday) revamped the forums toa much slicker style and I thought things were going to better than ever now. Didn't see this one coming either.

If there's any silver lining, maybe it'll wake people up that the Internet is fundamentally unique in that the more popular a site becomes, the more likely it is to shut down if it doesn't have a solid revenue model.

Neowin was particularly well run too. Neobond had put together an impressive team of moderators. Over the past year they'd done a good job sweeping out the nastier eliments of "geekdom" that tech sites tend to attract (i.e. the 17 year old geekling who thinks that putting something down is how to demonstrate technical knowledge). I spent more time on that site than virtually any other (I had almost 700 posts here).
